Wisdom in decision making

Better project decisions, earlier.

Pennington Group Associates is a project management and controls practice for industrial capital projects and turnarounds. We use the data your project already produces to show where it is really going — while there is still time to change it.

The practice

We leverage the power of data to help project teams make better decisions, manage risk, and optimize performance.

Most projects are not short of data. They are short of the one view that makes the decision obvious.

PGA provides innovative solutions for project management and controls using advanced data analytics techniques. We work closely with each client to understand the project's goals, then build a customised analytics and management plan around them — collecting, managing, analysing and reporting project data with current tooling rather than last decade's spreadsheet.

01

Project management

A plan the team can actually run, with the risks named before they cost you.

We build the project plan with you, identify the risks that matter, and manage resources against a baseline that holds. The objective is delivery on time and on budget — and, just as importantly, knowing early when that is at risk.

  • Execution and project-management plans
  • Work breakdown structure and coding
  • Risk register and mitigation tracking
  • Resource and manpower planning
  • Stakeholder and progress reporting
  • Contractor and subcontract oversight
02

Data analysis & visualization

Your project already produces the data. We turn it into something you can decide on.

We define the analytics requirements for your project, then advise on how data should be collected, analysed and reported. Combined with disciplined CPM schedule management, that produces visual insight into where performance is actually going — not where the last status meeting said it was.

  • Analytics requirement definition
  • CPM schedule analysis and health checks
  • Power BI models and dashboards
  • Primavera P6 data extraction
  • S-curves, SPI, CPI and productivity
  • Trend and variance analysis
03

Project controls

Full visibility of committed, incurred and forecast cost — with the trend attached.

Our project controls and cost management services give you visibility of every cost associated with the project and the direction it is heading. Reports are built for your project rather than pulled from a template, and they carry the analytics insight with them so the numbers come with an explanation.

  • Cost control and budget management
  • Commitments, changes and trends
  • Earned value and progress measurement
  • Cost forecasting and EAC methods
  • Cash flow and contingency drawdown
  • Custom monthly controls reporting

How we work

Four steps, in this order.

The sequence matters. Tooling chosen before the decision it serves is how projects end up with dashboards nobody opens.

01

Understand the objective

We start with your project goals and requirements, not with a toolset. What decisions do you need to make, how often, and what evidence would make them defensible?

02

Design the data plan

We develop a data analytics and management plan tailored to the project: what gets measured, by whom, at what interval, and how it rolls up through the WBS.

03

Instrument the collection

We put the collection mechanics in place — schedule, progress, commitments, actuals — using the latest analytics tooling and, where it fits, our own VissRad applications.

04

Report, interpret, advise

You get reporting that explains itself, reviewed with you on a cadence. Where the trend is adverse, we say so early and bring options rather than a variance column.

Our software

VissRad — the toolset we built because nothing on the market fit.

An integrated suite for project controls, completions and project finance, developed in-house and used on our own engagements.

Enterprise project-controls platforms are priced and scoped for owners with permanent programme offices. Smaller capital projects and turnarounds get spreadsheets. VissRad sits in between: real completions gating, real earned value, real cost forecasting and a finance core — as desktop applications you run yourself.

Applications are independent products with their own data stores. Document-level coordination between them runs over the VissRad Link exchange layer.

A project controls report should end an argument, not start one.

The PGA position

Tell us what the project needs to prove.

Whether that is a schedule you can defend, a cost forecast you believe, or completions evidence that will survive turnover — start there and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right practice for it.
